AUSTINITE MARCIA BALL’s File Under Blues (Rounder), which she is co-producing with guitarist Derek O’Brien and saxophonist Mark “Kaz” Kazanoff , is in production at Austin’s Arlyn studios. The hardest-tinkling pianist in show business is recording songs like “The Right Tool for the Job” between her more than fifty touring dates this summer. Among the guests she has recruited: drummer George Raines , bassist Larry Fulcher , and guitarist Clarence Hollimon . A March 1997 release is planned. … Rappers 8 Ball and MJG are “Up to No Good.” That’s the title of the song they’ve contributed to the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Phat Beach, a hip-hop comedy that features Coolio, and it’s only the latest effort from the Houston duo in a busy year. In March their most recent album, On Top of the World (Suave), went gold; since then they’ve recorded “Listen to Me Now” for America Is Dying Slowly (Elektra), the AIDS Project compilation album, and they’ve begun work as featured guests on new records by label mates Tela and Mr. Mike . … The more than 150 members of Richardson’s Rich-Tones Chorus will record their as-yet-untitled fourth album this summer at the Dallas Sound Lab. The award-winning women’s chorus, which won the Sweet Adelines International Championship last year for the second time, will cut barbershop standards like “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” and more modern tunes like “Proud Mary.” The album will be available this September.
