Swing Fever

The things you can’t live without.

With plenty of legroom for the canoodling rituals of spring (seven feet, in fact), the VIKING can just as easily sway on a lazy veranda in King William as it can swoon in a contemporary Deep Ellum loft. Booster seats, La-Z-Boys, and rocking chairs have all recently received some design-world TLC, so a porch swing with sex appeal couldn’t have been far behind. A collaboration between two Austinites—interior and product designer Marla Henderson and artisan Mark Macek—the white-oak rocker’s allure comes from its embrace, made possible by Macek’s delicate woodworking. The shape is completely modern, but the swing still conjures a wholesome to-and-fro and innocent ankle-locking.
