What do you call a group of chefs—A covey? A gaggle? A gargle? A convocation? A competition? Whatever you call them, several big-name chefs from the San Antonio area will be cooking dinner as a benefit for Foodways Texas next Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m. If you’ve been meaning to visit their restaurants, you can knock off several in one evening. Guest speaker for the fund-raiser will be noted culinary author Molly O’Neill, author of One Big Table: A Portrait of American Cooking, who will talk about immigrant food cultures (think about picking up an autographed book or two for foodie gifts). So who’s in the kitchen? Jason Dady (The Lodge, Tre, Bin 555, Two Bros.), Andrew Weissman (Il Sogno, Sandbar), Rebecca Rather (Rather Sweet Bakery in Fredericksburg), Tan Nguyen (Central Market), Elizabeth Kossick of the CIA San Antonio, and Jesse T. Perez (consultant, Alamo Café). At this point, you may be wondering what Foodways Texas does and why you should give it your hard-earned cash? Briefly, it is a fledgling statewide organization whose goal is to preserve Texas food traditions through oral histories, documentary films, and research. So your $150 ticket (click to purchase) goes for an excellent cause. It also includes beer, wine, and cocktails–what a bargain. I wish I had a menu to share, but they’re still working on it. I can tell you that Texas products and cuisines will be highlighted, of course.
