In a world of snow cone stands, froyo trailer MamboBerry is the underdog. Okay, they’re located in the prime South Congress trailer park. And they’re part of the increasingly obnoxious froyo craze. And they also have a bit of a line. So maybe they’re less underdog and more refreshing alternative. After dashing over to South Congress for my third (repeat, third) attempt to try the Cutie Pie Wagon, which was SOLD OUT again, I figured the more healthful option would be a smoothie. I didn’t want fudge brownie pie with a peanut butter glaze or “pucker your sucker” key lime served to me by a man in a boa, anyway. Lucky for me, the mango-strawberry-pineapple smoothie with frozen yogurt cooled me down from the blazing summer heat at least five degrees. It could have been a tad sweeter, but I’m not complaining. The real joy was the tart-flavored frozen yogurt with fresh Fredericksburg peaches. They also have green tea–flavored yogurt and fun toppings like Fruity Pebbles and Cap’n Crunch or omega-3-packed nuts like almonds and walnuts. It all goes with the surfer vibe of the stand and its blond, smiling froyo pushers. As I ate my yogurt and fruit, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they—and the cute, guitar-strumming strawberry painted on the side of the trailer—started singing a Jack Johnson song like “it’s always better when we’re together.”
