Tex-Mex

(From November 2009) In the beginning (that would be 1935), Joe T. nurtured a tumbledown, two-room frame house into what would become a sprawling complex of dining rooms and patios with a seating capacity of 1,000 to 3,000 people, depending on the season. And it was good. So good, in fact, that Tex-Mex devotees still come from miles around to enjoy the chips and attention-demanding salsa, the plates of enchiladas and fajitas, and the ice-cold cervezas and primo margaritas. Amen. Bar.

Tex-Mex

(From November 2009) Named for the fabled Texas horned frog that supposedly survived a stay in the cornerstone of the Eastland County courthouse in the early twentieth century, this location just off the TCU campus opens up early for the likes of hearty American and Mexican breakfasts (migas served with Mexican potatoes and refried beans is a good choice). Tacos or burritos, with steak, chicken, or veggies, make a fine lunch, while nachos and better-than-average enchiladas hit the spot after the sun goes down. Large windows and simple decor lighten up this formerly dark steakhouse. Bar.

Eclectic /
Tex-Mex

(From July 2008) Chef-owner Brian Olenjack has proved he can draw crowds, who make the trek knowing they’ll be rewarded with delicious food. Glass partitions separate the dining area from the sports bar, with its brass chandeliers and blackboard cocktail list. Ample appetizers include fried oysters, tequila-and-brown-sugar-glazed shrimp, and cumin-dusted quail, while entrées include such hits as striped bass and chicken-fried steak. Bar.
