Tex-Mex

(From February 2011) Possibly the most popular, distinctive menu in town melds comfort food with thoughtful preparation. We’re mad for the lightly pan-fried crab and salmon cake, a loose-textured construction boosted with chopped herbs and onion, perfect for dredging through the pleasantly hot Creole mustard. Wood-grilled lamb chops take on a hint of Latin flavor with a spicy chorizo demi, softened by polenta creamy with jack cheese and smoky with roasted poblano. Even side dishes deserve special attention, particularly when they’re as distinctive as the bacon-riddled mustard greens and the mascarpone whipped potatoes. Our favorite sweet is the Valrhona chocolate cup with a chocolate-caramel-pecan mousse. An enclosed brick patio easily accommodates overflow crowds. Bar.

Eclectic

(From August 2011)

A lovely outdoor patio with a view of the Rose Garden has been added, and the expanded menu now includes the likes of grilled tilapia (in poblano cream sauce) and pecan-crusted chicken, as well as the usual luscious salad plates (our chicken salad with apricots was delightful, as always). Even better, the dishes are quite affordable, and the staff provides an experience as serene as the surroundings. Bar.
