(From March 2011) Under new management, Dixie is a down-home, drive-up-get-out-and-order kind of place. Its burgers are fat and juicy with fresh, crisp lettuce and tomato, while steak fingers and chicken strips are hand-breaded. The patty melt is served on rye bread with American white cheese. Weekly specials include a yummy Monte Cristo.

(From January 2011) From the same folks who brought us Gerardo’s Casita comes this no-frills place where an eclectic menu features both American and Mexican standards. The patty melt is set apart by being served on toasted jalapeño bread, with the juicy meat neither over- nor underdone; two slices of Swiss cheese and grilled onions round it all out. The baked catfish is served atop grilled squash, zucchini, and onions and comes with a side salad and a cheese roll. The atmosphere and prices intersect at perfectly pleasing points. Liquor license pending.

(From May 2012) Serving up “a true taste of Europe” out in West Texas, this quaint family affair introduced us to banichki, a flaky cheese-stuffed pastry served with plain yogurt dipping sauce. Then we moved on to Ogi’s Special Chicken, a tender breast smothered with a creamy white wine–mushroom gravy. One of the more unusual sides is the roasted jalapeños, which are blackened, then split and sprinkled with a dill weed–spice mixture, and finally dressed in balsamic vinaigrette. Any of the six freshly made sausages are a must-try. We finished with the garash, a traditional Bulgarian chocolate cake. Bar.

(From May 2011) This new place on the block is already known for its Philly cheesesteaks, and rightfully so. Seated in the festive room, with its big-screen TVs and high-top tables, we started with that back-East staple, pierogi: fried dumplings stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes and cheeses. We also liked the mushroom Philly, which added ’shrooms to the juicy meat, grilled onions, and white cheese. The Jack Attack burger proved to be a cross between a burger and a Philly. Final plus: Everything comes with fresh-cut fries. Bar.
