Author Dr. Kurt Senske Visits the Village at Gleannloch Farms

Nationally known author and speaker Dr. Kurt Senske, presented an inspirational and practical program on how to achieve personal fulfillment at The Village at Gleannloch Farms on Sunday, February 13, 2011.  The presentation included a book signing for the latest book by Dr. Senkse, “The Calling: Live a Life of Significance.”  The program ran all afternoon and members of public attended at no charge. Autographed copies of the book were available for sale.

“Dr. Senske is a leading authority on something that concerns us all—how to get the most out of life that we can,” said Kathy Johanns, executive director of The Village at Gleannloch Farms. “We all benefitted from him sharing this life-changing message with our residents and the community at large. It was an energizing afternoon!”

A gifted public speaker, Dr. Kurt Senske has been a regular commentator on television and radio as well as a guest columnist for newspapers and magazines on a variety of issues.  Dr. Senske is also frequent speaker at the nation’s top universities and other influential organizations.  He is author of two other books dealing with personal values and discovering a life calling from a faith-based perspective.

A man of varied interests and expertise, Dr. Senske holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, a law degree, a master’s degree in international relations and a PhD in government. His visit was part of an ongoing series of entertaining and informative events that The Village at Gleannloch Farms sponsors for the benefit of its residents, their families and guests, and the general public.

“We recognize that our residents enjoy active experiences—both mental and physical—and they keep us on our toes coming up with plenty of fresh programs every month,” said Mimi Collins, lifestyles coordinator for the community. “They are very committed to personal improvement as well—and that’s what made Dr. Senke’s visit so satisfying to them.  Plus, they all love opportunities to socialize with dynamic authors.”

Sponsored and owned by Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc., The Village at Gleannloch Farms is a not-for-profit community offering 123 independent living apartments and cottages for active adults aged 62 and above. In addition, the community offers a continuum of care including 30 assisted living apartments, 18 memory support residences, and 35 private skilled nursing suites.

Traditionally, some older master-planned developments have offered housing options such as patio homes or assisted living facilities to extend their multi-generational appeal. However, the latest trend is to take the concept a step further and include a community that offers a full continuum of care – an option that, until now, was non-existent in Houston.

Located at Champion Forest Drive and Northpointe Boulevard, the community is situated on 25 acres and is designed to resemble the property’s original architecture. Architect of the project, three architecture of Dallas, incorporated native Gleannloch Farms stone and wood overhangs, balconies, trellises and fences to promote a “countryside residence” exterior. The community’s interior, designed by Faulkner Design Group of Dallas, features arts-and-crafts period influences using wood paneling, stained glass and wood-beamed ceilings.

The community adds to the already extensive variety of residential housing options available in Gleannloch Farms. Other Gleannloch Farms amenities include a lakeside aquatic and athletic complex, equestrian center, championship golf course, hiking and biking trails, and highly acclaimed schools.

In addition to a full range of health care options, The Village at Gleannloch Farms offers a variety of resort-style amenities including landscaped courtyards, multiple dining venues, and common areas totaling over 148,000 square-feet. The common area spaces include a 100-seat chapel, library and business center, creative arts studio, full-service beauty salon and barbershop, heated outdoor saltwater pool and fitness center.
