SPA’s 2013 Gala: Red Hot Rio!

Dynamic duo Rosemary Schatzman and Vanessa Sendukas are chairing this year’s Red Hot Rio, benefitting Society for the Performing Arts (SPA). Liz and Tom Glanville will serve as the honorary chairs. SPA is known for bringing the world’s best to Houston, the 2013 gala will surely not disappoint the crowd with its sizzling sights and samba sounds of a sultry night in Brazil when Red Hot Rio! takes over the Wortham Center Grand Foyer on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The red hot evening starts at 7:00 p.m. with cocktails. It will be a feast for the senses with tantalizing fare created by Jackson and Company and sumptuous décor by Rebekah Johnson of Bergner & Johnson. So grab your passport and get ready to dance the night away to Brazil’s samba sensation and Latin Grammy Award winner Diogo Nogueira. Guests will also enjoy music from the Memphis Train, who will keep the party dancing into the night. This year’s gala will honor Leticia and Steve Trauber for the many years they have contributed their time and efforts to SPA. The proceeds from the gala provide the necessary funds needed for SPA’s Education and Outreach Program, Beyond the Spotlight, that takes the performing arts into the community to present unique learning experiences enriching the lives of more than 120,000 underserved children and adolescents in the greater Houston area annually. SPA’s educational programming includes Master Classes, Residencies, Teacher Workshops, Lecture/Demonstrations, Creative Writing/Choreography Programs, Student Matinees and Transportation Funding, plus performance tickets free of charge to Houston’s most underserved students. Research shows that academic performance improves and dropout rates go down when students are involved in the arts. Since 1966, Society for the Performing Arts has built a reputation as the most innovative community-oriented nonprofit presenting organization in Houston. Last season, more than 100,000 Houstonians enjoyed SPA’s performances. Many underwriting opportunities are available.
