ABOUT DALLAS FILM SOCIETY
The DALLAS Film Society celebrates films and their impact on society. A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the DALLAS Film Society recognizes and honors filmmakers for their achievements in enhancing the creative community, provides educational programs to students to develop better understanding of the role of film in today’s world, and promotes the City of Dallas and its commitment to the art of filmmaking. The annual DALLAS International Film Festival is a presentation of the DALLAS Film Society. In addition to producing one of the largest festivals in the Southwest, the Society produces numerous year round events, screening series and partnership programs with arts organizations around the city.
From its inception, the DALLAS International Film Festival has collaborated and partnered with other film, arts, cultural and community organizations in the area. The DALLAS International Film Festival aligns itself as Community Partners with a number of these organizations to create a series of co-hosted screenings. The Festival works with these groups to select programming that appeals specifically to their constituencies. The Community Partners promote those selected films to their constituents and they co-host the screenings. In return, the Festival provides the organizations with valuable exposure to its audience, including website presence, recognition in printed materials and the opportunity to distribute information to filmmakers and at Festival venues.
Education is one of the vital components of the DALLAS International Film Festival’s mission and programming. In addition to Q&A sessions and panels at the Festival’s venues, the DALLAS International Film Festival holds an annual series of master classes with internationally known filmmakers, composers, producers and actors at area universities and for high school students from all over North Texas.
Members of the society receive a variety of benefits including year-round programs and special events such as the DALLAS International Film Festival, the DFS Premiere Series featuring soon-to-be released films, and monthly screening series at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art and Crow Collection of Asian Art, along with much more. The support of the members enables DFS to succeed in creating unique film experiences, from hosting emerging talent and great cinema masters and their work to producing educational discussions, panels, and networking events.
