Edgemere Raises More Than $34,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association

This fall season was all about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease as more than 60 family members, residents and staff of Edgemere senior living community gathered to support efforts to end Alzheimer’s disease in this year’s Memory Walk benefitting the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  For the second year in a row, Edgemere was the biggest corporate sponsor raising more than $34,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. The final donation will include a gift from the Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC) Charitable Foundation which each year matches 50 percent of the funds raised by residents and staff.

“Everyone is so proud of our efforts this year,” said Tori Mallad, director of sales and marketing at Edgemere. “The past few months have been spent raising money through various activities at the community.  Each year brings a new found hope that a cure will be found.”

In addition to the funds raised by residents and staff, Edgemere also committed $15,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association for various sponsorships, such as, the Greater Dallas Chapter Lecture Series and the 2010 Blondes vs. Brunettes Powder Puff football game.  Edgemere staff also participated in specialized training for activity based Alzheimer’s care in addition to offering an 18-hour training course for caregivers on the foundations of dementia care.

In 2008, SQLC founded the SQLC Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that operates to make grants to and support programs and services that advance the interests of seniors, from Alzheimer’s research to education.

Edgemere is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit senior living community owned by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), a Texas-based nonprofit organization that owns sister communities The Buckingham in Houston, Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, The Stayton at Museum Way under construction in Fort Worth, and Mirador under development in Corpus Christi.  For information, visit www.edgemeredallas.com, or call (469) 619-0825.
