The Legacy at Willow Bend, Plano’s first and only life care senior living community, recently welcomed Father Harry Dailey, representative of Austin Street Centre, who came to thank The Legacy residents for their donation of 118 scarves to the centre’s homeless.
Carol Fleischer Sobol started “Knitting for the Homeless” in March 2009 and introduced it to residents of The Legacy at Willow Bend this year. The project brought many residents together to knit and crochet scarves for the Dallas area homeless. The Legacy residents alone made 118 scarves, and chose to donate them to Austin Street Centre. Father Harry came to thank the residents for their labor of love.
“These beautifully hand-crafted scarves will comfort our centre’s children, sick, mentally ill, and handicapped,” said Father Harry. “So many people have good hearts, and it is people like you from The Legacy that make our efforts and our centre work.”
Florence Kramer, volunteer coordinator, organized the “Knitting for the Homeless” project at The Legacy. “This has been the most gratifying, beautiful project,” said Kramer. “The residents have not only brought joy to many homeless people’s lives, but they have brought joy to my own. I want to thank Carol Fleischer Sobol for presenting this project to us.”
