Fitness Minutes for Charity

Residents of Edgemere retirement resort recorded 1,525,000 minutes of fitness activity throughout 2010 as part of the community’s “Fitness Minutes for Charity” program.  For every 500 minutes residents spent doing a wide range of fitness activities, including walking, swimming laps in the community aquatic center, weight training in the community fitness center, or participating in aerobics and tai-chi classes, the Edgemere “Fitness Minutes for Charity” program donated $1 to a different charitable organization selected by the Edgemere Resident Fitness Committee each quarter.

With Edgemere residents’ accumulated minutes of fitness, the community was able to donate a total of $3050 to four local organizations throughout 2010.  The selected organizations for 2010 were the Salvation Army, Vogel Alcove, Family Place and Retina Foundation of the Southwest

“This program has proven to be very successful, both for the residents and local organizations,” said Lorraine Kendrick, director of lifestyles at Edgemere.  “It emphasizes the importance of being physically active and healthy, as well as being active in the local community.”
