THE LEGACY AT PRESTON HOLLOW RECEIVES DEFICIENCY–FREE INSPECTION FROM THE TEXAS

The Legacy at Preston Hollow, a family service-oriented community, has received a deficiency-free healthcare inspection rating from the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities Services. In achieving this stellar rating, the community has reached one of the major community healthcare goals set when The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. assumed ownership of the former Veranda at Preston Hollow.

The inspection process lasted four days and included a team of surveyors from the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities Services. The full continuum of nursing care was inspected, including: dining services, laundry services, environmental aspects, administrative practices, and human resources. Interviews were also conducted with residents, their family members, and team members. According to the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities Services, the average nursing home is cited with seven deficiencies.

“Receiving a deficiency-free inspection is a very difficult thing to do,” said Jerry McDonald, executive director, The Legacy at Preston Hollow. “Because the inspectors give no notice of their arrival, I make sure that we are in the habit of performing our duties and tasks perfectly every single day. In order to reach this level of performance, we went through extensive training with our staff, performed audit reports, and added additional staff positions such as a full-time RN and dedicated wound care nurse. I want to make sure that our residents have the absolute best level of care and trained staff possible.”

The Legacy at Preston Hollow has deep roots in the community reaching back to its beginning as The Dallas Home for the Jewish Aged, a not for profit organization that opened in 1953 and has continuously served seniors and the Jewish community since its inception. The original home was located on the Golden Acres Campus and transitioned to its new location in August of 2007 when the parent company, The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc., purchased Veranda at Preston Hollow as a replacement location for The Dallas Home for the Jewish Aged. After an extensive renovation to most of the community, the name was changed to The Legacy at Preston Hollow to reflect its corporate ownership and their standard for service, amenities and the quality of care. The last phase of renovation has recently been completed and celebrated with the naming and dedication of the second floor assisted living residences in honor of the generous gift from the Herb & Genie Weitzman Family.

“We are extremely proud of where The Legacy at Preston Hollow is today and the accomplishments and goals we have achieved along the way,” said Michael Ellentuck, president, The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. “I believe we have reached a reputation of excellence in not only the Jewish community but in the healthcare world as well. We have continued to bring the ‘personal’ into a clinical setting, focusing on each resident’s individuality.”

“My mother was previously living in Houston and our family jointly made the decision to move her to The Legacy at Preston Hollow in November 2008,” said Barbara Gutow, daughter of resident Esther Gillespie. “Her health has improved immensely due to the loving nurse staff and the dedicated rehab program. My mother is now out of rehab and in long-term care where she lives a productive and fulfilling life.”

“The medical staff at The Legacy at Preston Hollow is truly exceptional,” said Mark Fleischer, medical director, The Legacy at Preston Hollow. “The nurses and staff are trained not only on the professional level but on the personal level as well.”
