More than 165 people attended the first annual “Compassion Fatigue Syndrome Symposium” held at The Legacy at Willow Bend. The event, which was presented at no charge to attendees, was designed for professional and caregiving communities and provided nursing, LPC, Social Work CEUs and Physician CMEs. 

“The event was an amazing success,” said Louise Dunkerley, marketing and sales director, The Legacy Senior Communities.  “The Legacy partnered with Apple Care and Companion to host an array of fascinating speakers and experts on the subject of compassion fatigue. We hope to continue with the symposium next year.” 

Highlights included sessions by David W. Crumpacker, M.D., who discussed “Alzheimer’s Disease: What You Need To Know,” followed by Harriet Cohen, PhD, LCSW, who lectured on “Addressing Ethical Issues in Compassion Fatigue.” Breakout session topics included: “Compassion Fatigue” by Susan Stacy, MS, LPC; “Managing Compassion Fatigue Through the Wellness Model” by Martha C. Fiddes, PT, GCS, CQM; and “Compassion as a Calling” by Jane Nunnelee, PhD, RN-BC, GNP. Lunch was provided while guests listened to Motivational Guest Speaker Anne Sadovsky. The event concluded with HEALING SOLUTIONS by Move Studio Dallas.
