Edgemere senior living community, in partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas Good Neighbors Program, recently welcomed Dr. Don Arbuckle, Clinical Professor of Public Affairs at UTD, as he presented his topic “Why Your Government Doesn’t Work.” More than 50 residents attended, and enjoyed a non-partisan stroll through the constitution of the United States and a glimpse of how the constitution continues to work for us more than 200 years later.

“Teaming with UTD has proven to be very beneficial for our residents,” said Lorraine Kendrick, lifestyles director at Edgemere. “Their distinguished faculty and staff provide insightful lectures covering a wide range of topics that appeal to all audiences.”

In the summer of 2006, after working under 4 presidents, Dr. Arbuckle retired after surviving 25 years at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). There he was the career executive in charge of the OMB staff responsible for presidential review of regulations and government efforts to collect information; Executive Branch information and information technology policy; and Federal Government statistical policy. He worked on a daily basis with White House policy officials from the Office of the Vice President, the Chief of Staff’s Office, the Domestic Policy Counsel, and the Office of Homeland Security, and with agency officials, including both career executives and political appointees.
