Flying the Texas Flag

posted in crime [more from this topic] by kirk_pitman on Monday, October 15th 2012 at 1:18 PM.

I am choosing to post this under CRIME. For that is what it is A CRIME to fly the Texas Flag lower than the US Flag. I have driven around the state and it is incredible to me that cities like Flower Mound and Forney fly the Texas flag lower than the US Flag. I see Yankee companies like Citi-Bank and the like come to our state and fly our flag wrong. Yankees just naturally assume the Texas flag should be flown like their home state. They don’t realize that Texas entered this nation as a Republic, a sovereign nation, and as part of the deal was to fly our Texas flag at the same height as the US Flag.

It insults our heritage and mocks the Texans who fought to free our state from the injustice of Santa Anna.

What is unexcusable is TEXAS cities, towns, and other government agengies to engage in this outrage. And when confronted basically have the "WHO CARES" attitude. I care. Help keep us save from these interlopers.

God Bless Texas

Well Diana, It does matter to me about flying the flag. I don’t know if you have ever been to a rodeo but when those 2 gals come barreling out of the gate each with an US Flag and Texas Flag, riding hard and fast and, EVERYONE stands and puts their hands over their hearts. I have to admit I tear up. The Texas Flag of a symbol of MY STATE and represents everything I believe about being a Texan. I’ll make no apologies to you or anyone who wants to disrespect our flag. I care nothing for Rick Perry and think him to be one of the worst governors ever. But he and I have one thing in common - TEXAS. God Bless Texas

Maybe we should do away with flags then we can debate things that are more important than where a flag flies.

sandra, kirk is right my uncle is a retired col. from the army and while he was transitioning from active duty to reserves for his last 5 years he was assinged to a jag office. I’ve sat down many a times and read through his law books and on ALL military installations it is written in the U.C.M.J. ( Uniform Code of Military Justice) that if the Texas flag is flown it SHALL be flown at the same level of the American flag UNLESS the installation has only one flag pole at which time it shall be allowable to fly the Texas flag underneath the American flag. i take it sandra, that you my dear are not a Native texan that knoweth not of the conditions Texas joined the United States. But just remember this in the words of Sam Houston whom was president of the republic of texas " Texas can make it without the United states. The United States CAN NOT make it without Texas.

The national flag should be flown in the position of superior prominence. See link http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texasflag.asp

Ok there are a few typos and grammatical errors in my rant. I was and am still pretty darn worked up over it. Yesterday a Government professor at a local college, and a 4th generation Texan, told me I was wrong. It was federal law. State law, and I have the Texas Flag Code downloaded, states CLEARLY the Texas Flag is to be flown at the SAME HEIGHT. Texas Flag Code Article 6139c. When the state and United States flags are displayed at the same time, they should be flown on flagpoles of the same height, and the flags should be of approximately equal size.
