Still Life

Thirty-five years ago Dallas—and the country—was gripped by the tragic story of John McClamrock, a high school football player paralyzed during a violent tackle. But after the newspapers moved on, another story was quietly unfolding, one of courage, perseverance, and a mother’s fierce love.

Across The Line

According to the district attorney in Smith County, this building was the site of the most horrific child sex ring in Texas history. Three of the adults convicted of running it have already been sentenced to life in prison. There’s just one problem: The DA in neighboring Wood County, where the building is located, says nothing happened here at all.

The 50 Greatest Hamburgers In Texas

A gastro-scientific inquiry into the finest burgers in the state that invented the burger, including the Toro (#4), the Stodg (#6), the Miss Hattie (#28), and, in our top slot, a miracle of meat served only on Sundays. No wonder they call it the Lord’s day.

Innocence Lost

Since August 23, 1992, Anthony Graves has been behind bars for the gruesome murder of a family in Somerville. There was no clear motive, no physical evidence connecting him to the crime, and the only witness against him recanted, declaring again and again before his death, in 2000, that Graves didn’t do it. If he didn’t, the truth will come out. Won’t it?

Right Place, Right Time

An exquisite sense of timing—and a good deal of luck—has helped transform Rick Perry from an unknown Democratic state legislator into a swaggering Republican who’s spent more years in the Governor’s Mansion than anyone in Texas history. Kelly says:
I used to see Kinky at the Albertson’s in Kerrville, back when I lived there. Even in the middle of summer he’d have on a long-sleeve black shirt, black jeans, boots, black leather vest and black felt cowboy hat and, even though it wasn’t lit, that dadgum cigar was stuck right in the middle of his mouth. The funny thing is, I never saw him buy anything.

Style to me is and always will be, the person that tells the truth. Winston Churchill said "If you find the truth lock it in a box, and kick the crap outta anybody that comes near it from Texas via Maine" well maybe he didnt put it that way but you get my drift. Kinky Friedman tells the truth, even if its hard to find sometimes and the stupid are in capable of understanding it. Kinky is Style, and all yall that dont think so . Thomas

Some folks think they know you because of your public persona; others because they danced a two-step to your music in a bar west of Llano. And you write books, when carefully read, divulge reflections. Then there were those cautious efforts to squeeze your own self in between the Hat and the Stuffed Shirt on that Early-morning Show. You’ve done OK in a part of the Country where far too many folks stand out for far too many reasons; the least of which may be the Glory Days. So how’s the Goat… still alive?
