I had the priveledge of seeing Gary at the Gibson Lounge @ the Gibson Guitar factory in Memphis TN. He opened for Jimmy Vaughn. The place was packed and I wound up sitting with Gary’s Aunt. We had a ball that night and both bands put on awesome shows.Gary’s Aunt took me backstage to meet the both bands. Everyone was very gracious and it was the perfect end to a stellar night in Memphis. If you ever have a chance to see a show @ the Gibson Lounge you should by all means go....It is one of THE best venues I have ever been to. The Lounge runs second only to Gruene Hall.

What an inspiring article for young musicians. I’m passing this one on to my two sons. Thank you Chris Holcomb for such a well written article and for confirming the Austin dream is still alive and kicking.

Enjoyed this article about Gary Clark Jr. by Christopher Holcomb. Made me wish I was in Austin "hanging out in the garage" listening to the music! Thanks for the great article.

Cudos to TM for the great writing of Christopher Holcomb. I felt like I was "sitting in" with Gary and Christopher, having a Shiner Bock.

The author’s narrative to this story is phenomenal. Reminds me of twenty year younger Hill Adams.

It’s great to see TM showcasing lesser known musicians! Gary Clark Jr. has the potential to be the Townes Van Zandt of Texas blues.
I can’t wait for your next article, Christopher.

I was not sure who this GCJ guy was until this piece. This piece got me excited to check out his music. If only every piece of literature was written like this.

this is an excellent piece and i enjoyed reading it. GCJ exhibits more on-stage passion than most artists i’ve seen recently. check him out tonight at lambert’s on 2nd if you just can’t wait til tomorrow.

Great article on a great musician that Austin can be proud to claim as its own. There seems no limit to where this young talent can go...
