Still Life

Thirty-five years ago Dallas—and the country—was gripped by the tragic story of John McClamrock, a high school football player paralyzed during a violent tackle. But after the newspapers moved on, another story was quietly unfolding, one of courage, perseverance, and a mother’s fierce love.

Across The Line

According to the district attorney in Smith County, this building was the site of the most horrific child sex ring in Texas history. Three of the adults convicted of running it have already been sentenced to life in prison. There’s just one problem: The DA in neighboring Wood County, where the building is located, says nothing happened here at all.

Innocence Lost

Since August 23, 1992, Anthony Graves has been behind bars for the gruesome murder of a family in Somerville. There was no clear motive, no physical evidence connecting him to the crime, and the only witness against him recanted, declaring again and again before his death, in 2000, that Graves didn’t do it. If he didn’t, the truth will come out. Won’t it?

Everyone here should recognize that a false allegation on any sort could be unleashed on you, your family, your children, your mother, your father..ANYONE, no matter what they do for a living or how wealthy or poor they are who thier friends are..it just does not matter. Our justice system is a multi billion dollar industry...it needs all the cases it can get to make money to pay salaries. The ones who benefit are the ones handing done justice. DA’s and their procecutors are all corrupt,so are judges, lawmen and ALL politicians. Politicians will not pass a law unless the states can make money off of it. if the people like the law then it will be law. I believe that ost people convicted of sex crimes against children are actually innocent. Some are guilty, and those would be the ones where actual physical evidence was collected that proves they are guilty. Most case go by what the child says. And children do lie and parents coerce their children to lie.

I believe that this is true, my brother was sentenced to life for a crime that he did not commit either. My brother was tried in Judge Skeen’s court was not allowed to have witnesses and when told that one of the investigators that worked for the DA was married to his ex-wife he was told to shut up and say nothing. My brother has been in prison for 6 years now, he also dated Shauntel Mayo at the time, and will never see a fair trial because everyone wants money and these days our family has very little. I am a single mother of 2 girls who for 6 years has been trying to find someone who would help me free my brother or at least get him a new trial. He has 3 daughters of his own that he is missing out on. These people who sentenced him to life for someone who has never had a felony should see how this feels to them. Having your whole life taken away from you and put in a box to call home for life. All i can do as his big sister is keep fighting and looking someone out there will read this and help me i pray to God everyday that he sends me that one person.

Anonymous - you’re full of it. You are familiar with the workings of the DA’s office? You demonstrate not with your rote repetition of whatever hearsay you may have heard spouted by Thad Davidson in this magazine. Why don’t you meander over to the courthouse and actually read the records of the trials and see that the kids have been consistent and essentially unimpeached. Even the 14th Court of Appeals that reversed the Kelly case said their testimony was sufficient to convict Kelly. Maybe Wood County didn’t prosecute because some of their local officials were reportedly members of the sex club. The DA didn’t bring one single victim, outcry witness, CPS invetsigator involved, or Ranger to testify for the Wood County Grand Jury. Yeah, that was a thorough investigation. It looks like it was rigged from the start.

Just read an article in the Tyler paper. The latest 2 defendants in this circus were trying to get their bonds reduced. With Skeen as the judge it was, of course, a waste of time. It is obvious to anyone with any sense at all that this case is garbage yet Bingham and Skeen are trying to put more people in jail for something that apparently didn’t happen. Skeen and Bingham are the worst criminals in Smith County.

Well, here goes wow again, spouting off his "big" mouth like he really knew something.John was freed because the statue of limitations had run out, not because there was no crediable evidence against him to take to court, and if you have so much "PROOF" get it out there, I’m sure we would all like to see that"FOR A CHANGE" instead of all the lies that that have been told so far.

ANYONE CAN POST ANYTHING ON HERE, THERE NEEDS TO BE NO PROOF SLANDER ANYONE YOU WISH DO WHAT YOU WANT TO ASSINATE THEM, JOHN WAS NOT CHARGED WITH RAPE, AFTER BEING PUT THROUGH HELL HE WAS FREE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CREDIABLE EVIDENCE TO EVEN TAKE IT TO COURT. CHECK COURT RECORDS THIS WAS USED TO SMOKE SCREEN THE FACT THAT, THAT GIRLS HUSBAND WAS IN "FACT" AT THE SWINGERS CLUBS AND THERE IS PROOF OF THIS "HE TOLD" SOMEONE THAT IS WILLING TO TESIFY SO KEEP ALL THIS GOING AND WE WILL KEEP GETTING MORE AND MORE PROOF FROM YOU STUPID PEOPLE. Anonymous for fear of retribution says:
Knowing Matt Bingham and the workings of the Smith County DA’s office I would bet that Kemp was told to withhold the evidence by Bingham. It is common practice for the Smith County DA’s office to withhold evidence and sponsor perjured testimony. It has been going on non-stop since at least the Kerry Max Cook case in the late 70’s. Several things about this case didn’t smell right to me. One of the biggest indications that something was wrong was the fact that most of this supposedly occurred in Wood County but Wood County didn’t prosecute. The officer with Mineola PD who investigated the case for them has a lot of experience investigating these types of cases. If there were something there she would have done something about it. The fact that this Texas Ranger with no experience or training in interviewing children did the "interrogations" of the children was another big red flag. The fact is the Smith County DA’s office wanted to prosecute a sensational case that would get Bingham on the news. The truth does not matter to them. Guilt or innocence doesn’t matter. They will lie, cheat and steal to win. The tactics in this case which include withholding evidence and perjured testimony by law enforcement are standard operating procedure for the Smith County DA’s office. It makes one wonder if the self-righteous citizens of Smith County will ever wake up and do anything about it. Another problem with these cases is the fact that they are being tried in Jack Skeen’s court. Skeen still believes he works for the DA’s office. The chance of anyone getting a fair trial in his courtroom are slim. He was the DA until he was appointed as a judge and unethical, dishonest and illegal tactics were standard practice in his DA’s office. Bingham is Skeen’s protege. I’m glad these cases are finally getting the attention they deserve. I haven’t checked but I’d be surprised to see anything about the issues raised in the Texas Monthly article in the local Tyler press. The people who run the Tyler paper are buddies of Skeens and will only print things that make the DA’s office look good. What do think the odds are of this Ranger being prosecuted for perjury? Slim and none in Smith County. The officer who committed perjury in the Kerry Max Cook case was not only never charged or tried but retired from Tyler PD as a captain. In Smith County perjury by law enforcement officers gets them promoted because they are "team players". The AG’s office or someone else needs to step in and prosecute Kemp.
