Great piece. A few electoral related corrections (I believe) though. 1. Perry has won 11 contested elections, not 10. The 1990 Republican Primary for Agriculture Commissioner is absent from the article. Perry won that race after being just barely (Perry won 47%) forced into a second round against Richard McIver, who he trounced in the April runoff. 2. Kenneth Neighbours won 22% of the vote in the 1984 Democratic Primary, not 10%. There was a third candidate who won 19%. Perry won the race with 59%. 3. Hailey won 24% of the vote in the 1986 Democratic Primary, not 15%.

What catmman said...anybody who considers their candidate to be sent by God or like God is a little scary. However, like Obama Rick Perry IS a career politician.

We’ve had enough messianic imagery and comparisons to deity with President Obama. Don’t start it with Governor Perry.

Rick Perry: "We will not sit back and accept our current misery...because a great country requires a better direction...because a renewed nation requires a new president. That’s why, with faith in God, the support of my family, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of America, I am a candidate for President of the United States."

Ann Richards is not the last Democrat to win state wide. Dan Morales won AG in 1994.
