Abraham Verghese, Physician and Author (Thursday, April 2nd 2009)
Abraham Verghese is a physician, an expert on medical ethics and a widely-acclaimed writer. Verghese’s first book, the memoir, My Own Country, chronicled his work with AIDS patients in small-town Tennessee. His current book, the novel Cutting for Stone, spans generations and geography to tell the story of twin brothers who are born to a nun in Ethiopia and grow up to become physicians.
