Apache Mexican Cuisine
Around the corner from the Grand 1894 Opera House, this cheerful cafe (think red and green streamers, oversized paper flowers) is a well-kept secret. The chips are fresh from the fryer, and the homemade hot sauce induces a mild but complex burn. We made a satisfying lunch of tostadas piled with fajita meat, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and grated cheese and flanked by smoky charro beans. Our friend fell silent over chiles rellenos packed with well-seasoned carne asada. Beer & wine.
