A San Antonio institution, La Fogata still offers stimulating takes on classic Mexican fare. Favorite dishes, like captivating chicken soup, grilled chicken thighs with lots of garlic, and a killer chile en nogada have all buoyed the restaurant for over twenty years. But not all of the charm resides on the menu; shaded tables on the patio, most in sight and sound of fountains, suggest restaurants in Mexico City’s San Ángel area. Although you may pay a little more here, this is the place to bring out-of-towners for authenticity and charm. (9/12)
