Old Mexican Inn
A staple among locals (and our go-to spot for drives between East Texas and Austin), Old Mexican Inn usually delivers delicious Tex-Mex. But our visit got off to a rocky start thanks to an almost hostile hostess and a near hour wait between ordering and being served. Fortunately, the kitchen was in good form; our tortilla soup boasted thick chunks of spicy chicken as well as an array of fresh veggies, and the fajita nachos were heaped high with guacamole and lean beef. A younger diner raved about her “extra cheesy” enchiladas. (9/12)
