Avila’s
Except for small changes here and there, the menu at this Dallas landmark has been in place for eons. If you’ve never had pozole, a traditional soup of pork (or chicken) and hominy, this is a good place to give it a try; be sure to add the garnishes of jalapeño, onion, radish, red cabbage, and lime. Pork tamales are good, as are the crunchy brisket gorditas. House-made desserts are a plus; we chose the flan, dense and smooth, over the white chocolate bread pudding. Bar.
