A dynamic mother-son duo (she of Original Mexican Cafe fame, he of Gloria’s) has teamed up to bring Veracruz-style food to Preston Royal. Big points for presentation go to the Diablitos: tempura-fried shrimp dunked headfirst into shot glasses half filled with sweet chile sauce. Charro beans are pleasant enough but no match for the Cancun fajitas, the beef strips augmented with poblanos, onions, and tomatoes. (9/12)
