A bit rough around the edges, Auden’s Kitchen is the more-casual version of Bruce Auden’s tony River Walk restaurant. When we visited, the menu offered a “tomato goat cheese chipotle soup”—who could pass that up? We’d order it again in a heartbeat. Just as good was a crisply coated Scotch egg with greens and a mustard dressing. Main courses were more pedestrian, though, like trout (somewhat overcooked) stuffed with lemon slices and a salmon filet with fried polenta. The service strove gamely but could not quite manage, bringing us food intended for another table, serving the wrong sauce with the wrong dish, and generally making it look like OJT night. Bar.
