Blue Mesa Grill
The Blue Mesa Grill brags on its picture window overlooking Texas Tech’s Jones Stadium, and we had ample time to study the view while we waited for our dinner. Fortunately, we were occupied with the Queso Flight: a trio of creative quesos (wild mushroom, spinach- artichoke, and beef-chorizo) served with sweet-potato chips. The kitchen’s imagination extends to the tacos as well, our favorites being the portobello mushroom, the salmon, and the avocado–black bean with goat cheese. Sides are just as offbeat; the adobe pie, a sweet masa dome stuffed with black beans and cheese, was fantastic. Only because those tacos were tiny—we swear—we finished with dark chocolate empanadas in a sangria sauce. (10/12)
