This restaurant, bar, and trailer complex brings new life to historic Jaime’s Spanish Village, both in appearance and in flavor. Though Austin may not have needed another Tex-Mex restaurant, Pelons is a welcome addition to this clubby section of Red River, especially during the wee hours. A basket of crisp, salty chips with smoky salsa and a plate of gooey cheese enchiladas bathed in roasted red chile sauce both passed the “Tex-Mex basics” test with flying colors. Also good were the creamy avocado salsa, tender carnitas tacos with green chiles, and succulent beef fajitas (which may be among the best in town). Bar.
