It’s easy to get happy at Ana Beaven and Charlie McDaniel’s artsy spot deep in the heart of Montrose, with its cartoon-inspired murals and adorable, brightly hued cast-iron serving crocks. Don’t expect gratis tortilla chips, but do look for the “corn fritters” on the menu; crisp and greaseless, they’re served with a trio of homemade salsas (including an excellent spicy roasted tomato). Also scrumptious are the picaditas, pudgy corn cakes topped with black beans, crema, and cheese. Entrées on the well-edited menu are just as fun, like pork mole verde served with a cheesy-rich corn purée. Our only disappointment was the overcooked (but deliciously sauced) redfish veracruzana. Bar.
