Perched on the edge of Brackenridge Park, next to the Sunken Gardens, Augie’s has a full-scale pit, a tree-shaded backyard, and even a few picnic tables out front where you can wave at the kids riding by on the miniature train. The ’cue has its charms too, particularly the pig, exemplified by almost-falling-off-the-bone ribs and tender pulled pork that melts in the mouth. The meat is accompanied by the usual sides, plus a few extras like creamed corn, and desserts are predictably pecan-oriented, along with a few more sweet options. You don’t really need surprises with good barbecue, right?
