Chef Jesse Perez (formerly of Francesca’s) returns to SA with a glittery urban kitchen of his own at the Pearl. A menu of “Americana with Latin flavors and a touch of Mediterranean influence” translates into dishes like crisp flatbread triangles topped with onions, mushrooms, and arugula and grilled lamb chops (who gets the bone?) sauced with a dreamy fig–pasilla chile mole. The space subtly references its name with a fortune telling machine in the back hall (and the architectural arcade and in-and-out bar outside). The noise level is what one would expect with nary a soft surface in sight and a youthful indie sound track; ask for the back room.
