Sure, appetizers are meant to be shared, but we had to have chef Avner Samuel’s Mother’s Salad all to ourselves: tomato, cucumber, and bell pepper shot through with a bright lemon dressing—memorable in its utter simplicity. Caramelized diver scallops on a bed of pearly Israeli couscous with a tiny dice of Spanish chorizo was an entrée with verve. If a sweet tooth needs to be satisfied, the classic apple tarte tatin will do the trick. (7/13)
