Around the corner from the Grand 1894 Opera House, this reincarnation of Galveston’s most authentic Creole restaurant has spiffed up both food and service, as well as the nineteenth-century iron façade, visible only from the interior. The Louisiana meat pies (deftly seasoned ground beef in cornmeal pastry) and blackened-crab cakes with barely a hint of breading made a satisfying lunch for two and also left room for a shared slice of satiny peanut butter pie, one of a tempting selection of house-made desserts.
