Rick Perry shed at least one major donor in South Carolina this week after slamming Mitt Romney for getting into bed with “vulture capitalists” when he ran private equity firm Bain Capital.

CNN’s Peter Hamby spoke to Barry Wynn, a financial adviser in Spartanburg and former chair of the South Carolina Republican Party who labelled Perry’s comments “destructive.”

“It’s just a dance I didn’t want to be a part of,” Wynn told Hamby. “I don’t think you can be on both sides of free market capitalism. A big part of me being a Republican for the last 40 years is that I think it’s the best hope to protect free market capitalism, the growth engine of our economy.”

On Wednesday, the Texas Tribune compiled a list of the 79 financial sector players who donated at least $15,000 to Perry from 2001 to 2010. “The governor has received more than $7 million from private equity firms, private investment firms, investment banks and hedge funds, and their employees,” Ryan Murphy wrote in the Tribune.

This money, which paid for three Perry campaigns for governor, does not include contributions to Perry’s presidential campaign coffers.
