Life by the Drop: Solutions for the Looming Water Crisis in Texas

If you live anywhere in Texas, you are well aware that we are experiencing a water crisis of epic proportion. Towns are running out of water, lake levels are low, wildfires have ravaged the countryside, cattle are either dying off or being sold.

As an extension of our recent special report on water, “Life by the Drop,” Texas Monthly hosted a panel at the LBJ Presidential Library Auditorium, in Austin, to bring together some of the state’s best brains on the subject to offer their solutions to provide a steady supply of water for generations to come. Texas Monthly senior editor Nate Blakeslee led a lively discussion with the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture and experts from the Nature Conservancy, the Texas River Systems Institute and the San Antonio Water System. The discussion was followed by insightful questions from members of an audience of more than five hundred people.
