Sure, when we hit the Gas Light to sample the food our barfly friends had raved about, the joint was so dark our instructions, via text, were “We’re in the back. Walk toward the light.” But unlike the Depot District clubs, this place has stained concrete floors, moody paintings, a deck overlooking the playa, and no cover charge. Deciding to make a night of it, we started with the baked BLT dip: velvety cream cheese, sour cream, bacon, cheddar, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes. Next came the wrapped jalapeños: one crisp slice of bacon wound around a split pepper, stuffed with cream cheese. For the grand finale, the steak bites: thick, seared chunks served with a Bloody Mary sauce. (10/12)
