One day we found ourselves wearing college sweatshirts and recalling our salad days, so we angled over to Spanky’s, still located in the Texas Tech zone. Frat boys and sorority girls clustered on the patio, so we climbed to the moody loft where adults congregate. Priced for skimpy budgets, the sandwiches here include our longtime friend, the He-Man Woman Hater, a double-decker with bacon, and our new pal, the Mexi-Chicken, with sliced avocado and pico. Don’t crack jokes about our adorable notions of “the world”; the “world-famous” fried cheese really could win an international contest. (12/12)
