Set just off the water in Rockport, this breezy little seafood spot has lost none of its charm post-Harvey. Chef-owners Karey and David Swartwout love the Coastal Bend, and you can taste their affection in every bite of Gulf shrimp, drum, and Texas quail, all seasoned with salts harvested from Aransas Bay (now, that’s local). Start your evening on the covered porch with a nibble of fried oysters and a happy hour beverage ($5 cocktails and $2 beers? Make it a double!). We moved inside to the whitewashed, shiplap walls of the dining room for dinner. Mom’s Shrimp, which sounds like a dish from Cracker Barrel but is absolutely not, showcased plump Gulf shrimp bathed in a buttery, creamy wine sauce over indulgent mashed potatoes. Though the menu is missing the requisite corn dog and grilled cheese for kids, the Swartwouts are parents themselves and will happily fry up some hand-dipped chicken strips. All ages love the dark chocolate pot de crème, a not-too-sweet ending to a lovely meal. Take home some of Glow’s Aransas Bay salts for a taste of the coast in your own home kitchen.
