Rio Bravo
This tiny joint is as much about the sounds as the tastes. Diners are greeted by the comforting whir of the air conditioner, and the suspended TV plays Spanish-language soaps. And after placing your order, you can hear the sounds of each dish being prepared—the chopping of avocados for the divine guacamole, the beating of eggs to batter-coat killer chiles rellenos, the spattery sound of picadillo in the skillet. The only noises you add are the pop of an ice-cold beverage and a groan of satisfaction. (8/13)
