Irene’s

Boy, this place has got Austin’s number. Which is not surprising, considering it’s the latest venture from the same empire that birthed Easy Tiger and Italic. Inside the smartly designed cafe/saloon or out back under the towering pecan trees, romper-clad young women and blue-shirted bros (this place is just steps off West Sixth, after all) indulge in sandwiches (the veggie was mostly cream cheese, alas), daily specials like pot roast and King Ranch chicken, and a delicious bone-in New York strip served with bourbon mushrooms and a shot of Old Grand-Dad, naturally.
