Our favorite funky little cave epitomizes a neighborhood hangout. Long on quirky characters and big flavors, the dive has cultivated a loyal following for exceptional sandwiches like the Green Gobbler, piling thickly sliced turkey breast and mozzarella on a dill roll with avocado and red onion slices. The Greek salad cannot be beaten, especially if topped with gyro meat (all lamb) and avocado. Black bean soup is a standby, with excellent pico de gallo and fresh, warm tortillas alongside. Hummus is addictive, as is baba ghanouj, with warm pita for scooping. On Saturday and Sunday before noon, breakfast specialties include the S.O.B. eggs, owner-chef Nick Kithas’s version of migas, along with pancakes and fluffy biscuits. A jazz jam session can break out on weekends.
