For a quintessential Houston experience, consider this popular, pretty spot occupying a large corner space in Dun Huang Plaza, a bustling center with dozens of Asian eateries alternating with spas, clinics, and nightclubs. The ten-page menu is daunting, but you’ll likely recognize numerous dishes, and the friendly servers offer good recommendations. Don’t miss the roti canai (a tortilla-like pancake) with chicken curry dip or the chicken-and-beef satay, nicely caramelized and served with a peanut dipping sauce (which was just a tad gloppy). We enjoyed a generous bowl of spicy lemongrass soup with snow peas, baby corn, shrimp, squid, and scallops and beef rendang, fragrant and earthy with cinnamon and clove and just a little heat.
