Chef-owner Shawn Cirkiel’s West Austin neighborhood destination does a great job on takeout, with everything prettily presented and piping-hot (admittedly our drive was short). Now that warm weather is here, take advantage of the outdoor decks and shady nooks if you’re ready to dine on-site. Order this to go: Firm, flavorful pork meatballs come flanked by both roasted cherry tomatoes and a sumptuously sweet fig mostarda (more like preserves, really). Grilled asparagus—delectably scorched—was lavishly supplied with a seldom-seen sauce gribiche (imagine a more interesting aioli or tartar sauce). The fritto misto (shrimp, calamari, vegetables) stayed tender-crisp. Pro tip: Order a pasta (like the succulent butternut puree–filled mezzaluna) and you can add a protein for a reasonable amount—a great option for lighter appetites.
