Terry Black’s Barbecue

Terry Black is indeed the brother of Kent Black, of Lockhart barbecue fame, but this venture is its own thing. Serve-yourself sides and desserts are stocked where you enter the cafeteria line, which can cause a bottleneck. When you reach the meat counter, though, pricey smoked choices abound. We were eager to try the brisket, which turned out to be a little on the dry side. The pork ribs were tender, but the rosy meat fell off the bone a little too willingly, and the rub could have used extra salt and pepper. We didn’t have a chance to sample the luscious-looking beef ribs. Although most of the sides were nothing to write home about, the beans and classic potato salad were well seasoned. (10/14)
