No doubt it’s the focus on fresh, locally raised ingredients that induced the first lady to dine at this contemporary spot on her recent Houston visit. We certainly upped our daily vegetable intake with their beet, butternut, and feta salad, which was followed by an attractive array of produce surrounding grilled duck breasts and miniature dumplings. Root varieties accompanied the flounder en sous vide, our favorite dish of the evening. Our only quibble? A stupefying array of choices that includes small plates, large plates, two tasting menus, and pricey steaks and chops (and then there are the hard wooden benches in the booths). Much of the crowd seemed to favor the handsome Sanctuari bar over the dining room; the bartenders’ riffs on classic cocktails are a culinary treat on their own. (5/15)
