Like the other locations of this state-wide chain, Gloria’s at the Rim serves classic dishes from El Salvador and Central America, as well as Mexican and Tex-Mex specialties. The extensive menu starts out with sweet fried plantain and crisp yuca with garlic butter and ends up with custard-filled churros. Order this to go: plump, savory pupusas. The perfect intro to El Salvador’s distinct cuisine, these thick but tender masa rounds are a bit like gorditas but filled with a thin layer of pork or cheese before they are fried and traditionally served with a crunchy, vinegary cabbage slaw. We found them sturdy enough to reheat at home in the oven or on the comal. Complement these tasty bites with rich (and easy to reheat) black bean soup. Pro tip: Phone orders from the extensive, beautifully photographed menu are easy, but parking at the Rim, where the restaurants and clubs are neck-to-jowl, is a bit tricky, so add time for a stroll to the door (pay at the counter).
