A Tyler mainstay for over 15 years, Daniel Boone’s is a reliable provider of rib-sticking comfort food. Since our last visit, the place had changed locations and the menu has expanded, so that it now includes some yummy Tex-Mex options in addition to the standard lineup of grilled and chicken-fried steaks, seafood, and poultry. We were delighted, though, to discover that the gratis bowl of beans appetizer and the Blue Bell ice cream dessert are still a custom. After wolfing down said beans, we added a generous order of nachos with grilled chicken, while our hungrier carnivore friend was highly pleased with a tender and surprisingly affordable USDA Choice ribeye (charred just right and cooked to order). The group’s pescatarian was equally happy with Fish ‘n Critters, which gave him a choice of fish filets and shrimp cooked various ways. The kid’s menu covers all the little ones’ favorites: grilled cheese, corn dogs, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, even Frito pie. (Ask about a free kid’s meal with an adult purchase.)
