This Chicago-based “fresh-casual” concept is a welcome addition to Uptown and a reasonably priced alternative to the pricey steakhouses crowding the neighborhood. Its proximity to the American Airlines Center also makes it a good choice for pre-game or -concert dinners, and it’s wildly popular with nearby office workers at lunchtime. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the cheery patio, and contemporary art, big black booths, and pretty wood tables give the interior a handsome, modern look. A long list of sandwiches and burgers, as well as steak, poultry, and seafood entrées, make for an impressively diverse menu. Shareable starters include guacamole with house-made sweet potato chips and the Jumbo Lump Crab Stack, a tower of avocado, mango, and crab flecked with crushed mustard seeds atop a puddle of ponzu. The White Marble Farms Double-Cut Pork Chop is a steal at $14.94, and big enough for two (most entrées and sandwiches are pricier). Our chop was juicy and tender, thanks to a three-day brine, its flavor boosted by molten garlic butter mingling with its caramelized crust. The dish comes with fries, but our server kindly let us substitute kale salad. Entrée salads of note include the Quinoa Kitchen—the best quinoa salad we’ve had—studded with sun-dried tomato bits, Marcona almonds, sliced radish, mint, feta, and crispy fried leeks and dressed with basil vinaigrette (for a smaller, lighter version of the dish, get the Quinoa and Goodies side). We enjoyed the West Coast Steak Sandwich, a tender slab of filet mignon with Parmesan-kale slaw on a brioche-like bun. For a comforting dessert, get Rob’s Double Decker Chocolate Cake; instead of traditional thick frosting, it’s drenched in chocolate syrup, which ensures a moist texture. Chase it with the mini-bottle of milk offered with the cake, and you’ll feel like a kid again.
